Jawbox fue una banda de Post-Hardcore Punk de Washington D.C cuyos trabajos, viniendo de raíces como el Hardcore Punk de Minor Threat desarrollaron un estilo único de Punk comparable incluso al de Fugazi. La banda se encontraba conformada por J.Robbins como voz y guitarra, Bill Barbot como guitarra líder, Kim Coletta como bajista y Adam Wade (que fue reemplazado por Zach Barocas) como baterista.

Jawbox es fundada después de la desaparición de Goverment Issue, una banda de Hardcore en la que J.Robbins era bajista, él decide formar un grupo con Kim Coletta y Adam Wade, con esta formación grabaron el primer single y su album Grippe que fue recibido por la crítica como un album "débil pero prometedor" el lanzamiento de Grippe fue importante para la creación de DeSoto Records, una disquera que ganaría mucho prestigio dentro de la escena independiente.

En 1992, el trío ubica a Bill Barbot como segundo guitarrista y vocalista para grabar su segundo álbum Novelty con el productor Ian Burguess, a veces considerado el mejor de la banda. Adam Wade abandonó la banda poco después para unirse a Shudder To Think, debido a esto, Zach Barocas fue llamado para asumir el papel de baterista, los diferentes seudónimos que adoptaba el nuevo baterista en el escenario hacían que la gente lo confundiera fácilmente, unos de estos eran: Jim Schortz, El Jefe e incluso el nombre del actor japonés Takashi Nimura.

Jawbox ganó popularidad al ser la primera de dos bandas que decidieron salirse de la legendaría disquera Dischord Records (Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Fugazi, The Evens) para firmar un contrato con el gigante Atlantic Records, muchos fans recibieron con escepticismo el tercer álbum de la banda, For Your Own Special Sweetheart creyendo que Jawbox se había vendido a su nueva disquera, aún así, este nuevo trabajo y el siguiente conservaron un estilo cercano a las raíces de la banda y recibieron buenas críticas, su tercer disco obtuvo éxito en MTV con Savory, el sencillo del nuevo álbum, que obtuvo más éxito que el Single posterior Cooling Card.

La banda produjo un segundo disco para Atlantic, quienes crearon la disquera TAC Recordings para los artistas alternativos y movieron a Jawbox, este nuevo álbum homónimo tuvo mucho éxito, principalmente en universidades con los sencillos Mirrorful y un cover de Tori Amos, Cornflake Girl.

Finalmente, la bandá se separó, Barocas decidió mudarse a New York mientras Robbins y Barbot con el antiguo baterista de Goverment Issue, Pete Moffett, formaron Burning Airlines que rompió después de realizar dos álbumes de estudio. Barbot y Coletta siguen dirigiendo DeSoto Records. Barocas ingresó a la banda The Up on In quienes desaparecieron unos años después como Burning Airlines, de momento, el baterista participa en la banda de Minneapolis, The Million y publica poesía.

Lifetime is an influential American melodic hardcore band from New Jersey. Lifetime was formed in 1990 and disbanded in 1997. In late 2005, they announced their reunion.
The band was formed in 1990 by singer Ari Katz and guitarist Dan Yemin with its roots in the New York/New Jersey hardcore scene. They are known to have met and lived in New Brunswick, New Jersey during this time. In contrast to the negative, sometimes violent tone promulgated their New York hardcore contemporaries, lyricist Katz emphasized more positive, personal themes in their two-minute songs. In 1993, Lifetime released their first full length album, entitled Background, that bore only passing resemblance to their later, more melodic work. By 1995, the band achieved some form of stability with the addition of Pete Martin (guitar), David Palaitis (bass), and Scott Golley (drums). That same year, they released their second album, Hello Bastards on Jade Tree Records. Hello Bastards marked a slight shift in direction, incorporating more melodic punk leanings over a driving hardcore tempo. Ari Katz's lyrics, though sometimes undecipherable, dealt mainly with more introspective and personal themes such as relationships and youthful disaffection. Hello Bastards also includes a cover of "It's Not Funny Anymore" by the seminal 1980s alternative rock band Hüsker Dü, hinting at the band's musical influences.

Straylight Run are an indie band based in Baldwin, Nassau County, Long Island, New York. They are currently unsigned after being dropped from Universal Republic Records. Their latest release is the full-length album entitled The Needles The Space.

When he was still a member of Taking Back Sunday, John Nolan wrote several songs that he didn't feel would go well with the band. After their departure, John and Shaun Cooper recorded several demos with Taking Back Sunday drummer Mark O'Connell. The band began to take its present form when drummer Will Noon was invited to join after his former band, Breaking Pangaea, broke up. Breaking Pangaea's former lead singer was Fred Mascherino, who later took Nolan's place in Taking Back Sunday. Shortly thereafter, John's sister, Michelle DaRosa, joined Straylight Run.

The band gained popularity after posting six demo songs for free download on their official site. By September of that year, they were playing to sold-out crowds in various cities in the Northeastern United States.

Drummer Ágúst left the band after the recording of Ágætis byrjun and was replaced by Orri Páll Dýrason. In 2002, their highly anticipated follow-up album ( ) was released. Upon release all tracks on the album were untitled, though the band later published song names on their website. All of the lyrics on ( ) are sung in Vonlenska, also known as Hopelandic, a constructed language of nonsense syllables which resembles the phonology of the Icelandic language. It has also been said that the listener is supposed to interpret their own meanings of the lyrics which can then be written in the blank pages in the album booklet.

Sigur Rós joined Radiohead in October 2003, to compose music for Merce Cunningham's dance piece Split Sides; Sigur Rós’s three tracks were named Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do, and released in March 2004, while Radiohead's contribution was never released. Sigur Rós' 1997 debut album Von found a U.S. and U.K. release in October 2004.

Tienen dos videos musicales para sus temas The End of the Beginning y From Dust to the Beyond que fueron transmitidos por MTV del Reino Unido y por MTV Europa.

All is Violent, All is Bright lanzado en el año 2005, fue el segundo lanzamiento de la banda. Este álbum se estructura desde tranquilas melodías a otras más intensas y ofrece una representación fiel a su sonido real. El single Fragile ha sido reproducido en cadenas europeas de MTV.

El año 2006 lanzan un EP llamado A Moment of Stillness, y en abril del año siguiente lanzan un nuevo álbum llamado Far From Refuge.

Minor Threat was an American hardcore punk band that formed in Washington DC in 1980 and disbanded in 1983. While Minor Threat was short-lived, it had a strong influence on the hardcore punk music scene in the United States. Minor Threat's song "Straight Edge" was the basis for the straight edge movement, and the band often professed their own "straight edge" ideals. Critics have called Minor Threat's music "iconic,"and have noted that their "groundbreaking" music "has held up better than [that of] most of their contemporaries."

Along with the fellow Washington DC hardcore band Bad Brains, Minor Threat set the standard for many hardcore punk bands in the 1980s and 1990s. They produced short, often astonishingly fast songs, eventually with high production quality, which at the time was lacking in most punk and alternative rock. All of Minor Threat's records were released on the band's own Dischord Records label.

¿Cómo decirle que no a este disco?, estos tipos te obligan a quedarte sentado escuchando con tus audífonos. Los saxofones y toda la instrumentalización actuan como correas que te aprietan y te dan esa sensación de un dolor agradable, la voz rasgada y arrastrada de Tomas Kalnoky y el estilo particular de Streetlight Manifesto que con intros como los de "We Will Fall Together", los coros de "One Foot on the Gas, One Foot on the Grave" y esa extraña combinación de canciones oscuras como "Watch It Crash" y otras hechas para celebrar como "Somewhere in the Between" hacen de este, un disco imperdible y memorable...para aquellos que desean algo más que el Ska que la radio comercial puede ofrecer.
